Ride for a Cause – An Xkmph Initiative

You will never be forgotten

Happy Holidays Everybody 🙂 😀

Today I would like to share something which has been a very special and humbling experience. As many of you might have known I have been a member of XKMPH ( Indian Biker’s Community) for quite a number of years (may be 6 or 7 years). There is growing trend among motorbike enthusiasts to be a “BIKER”. A “BIKER” by definition is someone who has a good fatass bike, he has to have a huge fan following on facebook and quintessentially he has to hit the highway, albeit only for a few kilometer’s before his soul is scared like shit and he returns back. A really do not have any personal grudge against any biker, just to make the point clear.

Its not about being a BIKER but about being a HUMAN.

The Human In Us

This was the scene at 3 a.m. in front of Jagat Cinema (Sealdah) on a chilly winter night, that too on Christmas Eve. Don’t you think that they would have also liked to party till the wee hours of morning or be in the comfort of their house. They most definitely would love that, but they were people who came out to show how difference can be made. Not by changing your profile pictures in facebook, but being the Santa the city deserves and needs.

A little history about this initiative by Xkmph

The idea was primarily the brainchild of my good buddy Ramneek Singh some 4 years ago. The idea was to donate our old clothes and winter wear to the people who need them the most, poor homeless people sleeping on the streets of Kolkata. It started with a bare group of 8 – 11 people as long as I can remember. Over the years it has grown to become more than what we could have ever imagined. This unprecedented success in my opinion does not belong to any one individual, but to all the people who have been associated with this ride since the first year.
Here are the links to the previous years ride’s

You will never be forgotten
You will never be forgotten

This year’s cause ride was dedicated to the recently deceased Arindam Da. a true good soul and a hardcore motorcyle enthusiast. He lost his life after acutely suffering from pancreatitis. May his soul rest in peace.

To ride not for the sake of riding but to ride for a cause. This year the turn out was even better and people came from so many places. Some came after their midnight mass (Johnny) some after doing a full shift in their own business (Deep Da, Jignesh Bhai) some came from Burdwan at 3 a.m. and some.. Well i’ll just end the list here because if I go on describing it will be a long list. A very long list.
Preparation for the ride had started a month back, as collection of clothes had to be done. The support we got from each and every member of this community is truly amazing. The collection this time was huge and it came from all corner’s of Kolkata, Burdwan and even from Siliguri..

Preliminary Sorting and Packing being done

This is what I would like to call as brotherhood, coming together for a common social cause and making it a success.

Packing of clothes
Packing of Clothes in Full Flow

Its in the Joy of Giving Rather than Receiving it

The clothes packed and ready to be distributed

Riding across the streets of North Calcutta all the clothes collected were distributed. This is certainly not a log of all the things that had gone on during the ride. That would be up on http://xkmph.com/discuss/index.php. This is just a vote of thanks if you may say so to all the humans that were present on that night. You guys showed that there is still much humanity left in many of us. The world has too much hatred, may be we can spread a little love.

Proud to be a part of this initiative, proud to have been rubbed shoulder’s with the HUMANS of the society and not BIKER’S. Proud not to be a biker 😀

Cheers to Humanity.
Enjoy the festive season people. Happy Holidays

I want to say about your recent tour with Xkmph team : Good works is giving to the poor and the helpless, but divine works is showing them their worth to the One who matters. Best of lack for you & also all team.
