Hello everybody, it’s Wednesday again and its blog day. Today, rather than sharing any tutorial, I would like to share my experience of being a photographer and how it made me look at the world in a simpler way.

I had started taking photography seriously during my graduation days. Those days where spent in searching for countless YouTube videos of ways to shoot photographs and edit them. When I look at my earlier images (https://www.flickr.com/photos/debdutto-photography/) I see the countless mistakes I did back then. There was a time when I used to be so engrossed in the fact that how can I earn using my photographs.

Fast forward 6 years and the excitement of making a photograph has become greater than ever. Apart from being a photographer based out of Kolkata (Calcutta), I have ventured out to different parts of the country and shot many a story. During this time I have been through many different phases, one where I was so preoccupied with other work that I could not take any photograph whatsoever. There were times where I became gear hungry and wanted to buy as many photographic gear I could get my hands on. With each passing day these desires are slowly taking a back seat and I am deriving pleasure out of the simpler things in life. Nowadays when I know I would not be able to go to any exotic location to photograph that perfect cloud I just go on my terrace and try to shoot from there. I know I would not be able to make the perfect image that I had envisioned from atop the terrace but a strange sense of satisfaction prevails even after shooting from the terrace. I try and make the most out of the available condition and situation. And to me this feeling is more important than anything else. I know when I do get a chance to go out and photograph what I like, I will do so (http://woveninlight.com/woven_light/blog/musings-on-a-rain-soaked-evening-cloudscapes-of-kolkata/). But the times when I cannot I do not feel down and morose, instead I have started using that time in doing some productive work such as learning new techniques of post processing or ideating for the next shoot I am going to do.

Two days back I witnessed an amazing sunset but I could not go out looking for some interesting frames. So I did what makes me happy, when atop the terrace I shot to my heart’s content. Here are a few images from that evening.

Photography has always been an enriching experience for me. It helped me to meet new people, it made me feel one with Mother Nature, it’s made me more aware of Nature conservation and most importantly it has made be experience the joy we get from the simpler things in life.

Here is to a great week ahead. Happy photographing what you love.

    Dear Sadh,

I am proud of you, not because I have a relation , your vision and mission touched me to a great extent. Above all you are so eloquent
in making a read out format of your long cherished desire to fulfill. Finally, when your final-end ends at your roof top it is the real life natural feelings. Those days have gone , when most youngsters used to pass their afternoon to near dark evening on the terrace , for the kites and romance of youngsters of those days. When the houses were small and attached to each other with the common wall it was the iconic of Calcutta like metropolitan city. Now the changes are made with the high rise buildings where from only the sky is visible , still you could find a place at your wonderful sweet home and you have generated a real life feelings of the city through your photographic eyes. All my best wishes are with you. Only advise, be careful when your eyes would be caring for other objects. Be happy. — Jethus
